Corangamite Council Pedestrian & Cattle Bridge

Corangamite Council Pedestrian & Cattle Bridge

Executive Summary

Cope Ag Pty Ltd bridge contractors sought a cost effective, easy to assemble and structurally sound product for Corangamite Shire Council's four recently built pedestrian bridge - cattle crossing structures. Corangamite Shire's prime objective was to have an aesthetically pleasing, durable and low maintenance structure that prioritized safety for pedestrians, cyclists and road users. It would also serve the purpose of traversing livestock uninterrupted under the road from one side to the other. Wagners CFT Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) structural elements, decking and associated accessories proved to be the ideal choice, offering a solution that met all aesthetic, design and performance criteria. With a 100-year design life and resistance to corrosion, rot, and termite damage, Wagners CFT Australian made FRP products provided all the performance and longevity needed.

Working closely with Wagners CFT, Cope Ag assembled all bridge structures at their facility in Melbourne, successfully transporting them by road to site at Port Campbell in Victoria, a distance of some 275 kilometres away. The support of the Wagners project management team ensured Cope Ag's construction timelines were met whilst navigating the high traffic volumes experienced due to the peak tourist season.

"Wagners CFT delivered a solution that was customised to the unique needs of our project. Not only did the solution provide an easily assembled and transported product with all the benefits of strength, durability and performance, the Wagners CFT team provided the necessary technical support and commitment ensuring all our clients expectations were met."

The Project

Cope Ag Pty Ltd needed to construct a durable and aesthetically pleasing pedestrian, livestock and cyclist bridge that meets Australian and DDA standards.

Read more about the project below:

  • Key Challenges

    • Working in high traffic conditios due to peak tourist season
    • Tight on-site installation times which called for the structure to be assembled off-site.
  • Selection of Wagners CFT

    • Wagners CFT solution offered durability and resistance to chemical attack that traditional materials could not. In this case waste from livestock is highly destructive to metallic and road surfaces. These factors made Wagners CFT the clear choice.
    • Australian-made quality product with a 100-year design life.
    • FRP material and coating warranties.
  • Wagners CFT’s Solution

    • Wagners CFT delivered Cope Ag a light weight product in stick form (loose) for ease of assembly.
    • Cope Ag's pre-assembled bridges could be transported by road to the required destination and esily lifted into place.
    • Wagners CFT's technical support experts and project managers worked closely with Cope Ag's team to ensure a fit for purpose product and timely deliveries.
